Emergency Dental Care

Same Day Dental Treatment

A typical, non-emergency visit to the dentist involves contacting our Elk Grove office, making an appointment convenient to your schedule, and coming in at the pre-arranged time. But what should you do if a dental emergency comes up, perhaps a broken tooth, a painful toothache or one of your dental restorations breaks or loosens? Don’t hesitate, call our office and come in for an emergency dental visit — no appointment necessary! Don’t try to “Do-It-Yourself,” you need to see our professional staff ASAP.

Dealing with a Toothache

A toothache can come on gradually and grow to the point of extreme pain, or it can hit you suddenly and feel like it knocks you off your feet. The causes of toothache may include:

  • Severe tooth decay, reaching all the way to your the root,
  • A bacterial infection, leading to an abscess (a painful and unhealthy pocket of infection),
  • Oral cysts or tumors.

Whatever the cause, please do attempt to Google your way out of a toothache. There are over-the-counter products to temporarily relieve the pain of a toothache, but they do not get to the source of the problem — disease in your tooth! Waiting to see if it gets better rarely helps, because you need to see a dental professional. When you come in for your emergency appointment, our staff will assess your situation, take action to relieve your immediate pain, take x-rays if necessary, prescribe an antibiotic if you have an infection, and schedule another appointment if needed. You’ll walk out in much better shape than you walked in, reassured to know what is causing your pain and well on your way to putting your dental emergency behind you.

A Broken Tooth or Dislodged Restoration – What To Do?

If you break, dislodge or crack a tooth, or one of your crowns, bridges or implants becomes damaged, the sooner you come to our Elk Grove dental office the better chance you have of a happy outcome. But first, even before you come in, there are some steps to take:

  • Clean the damaged tooth or restoration, using water, saliva or even milk.
  • Put the dislodged tooth or restoration back where it belongs, if that’s possible, or keep it safe and hydrated, tucked between your cheek and gum.
  • Bite down gently on a wet tea bag or clean piece of cloth to keep your tooth in place.
  • A cold compress will help keep swelling and pain down.
  • Call our office ASAP and visit one of our Elk Grove dentists to get the help you need.

Losing a tooth or breaking a dental restoration is a bit scary, but quick action on your part does much to make this just a small bump in life. Do not hesitate to contact our office at 916-683-2000, even coming directly to us at 9381 East Stockton Boulevard, Suite 116, if our phone number is not in your regular list of contacts. Our dental staff quickly makes schedule adjustments to fix emergency dental problems immediately. We know what to do, we know what you need — the Case Dental Group is here to help with emergency dentistry.
